Children express themselves through play, music, art , movement and talking. Counselling with Expressive Arts Therapies offers children opportunities to work through challenges and offers them healthy lifelong skills to cope with the stresses they experience. Parents and/or Caregivers meet with Maxine for an intake session before the children begin therapy. Parents and/or caregivers are an essential part of the team to support the well being of their children.

*Learning Challenges: Counselling and Expressive Arts Therapies can assist children with reading, math, and language skills. Through rhythm, gross and fine motor movement and melody music can motivate and offer children an alternative way to succeed in school.
*Special Needs: Music and Expressive Arts Therapies have been successfully used with children who have special needs. Maxine has worked extensively with families and their children who have special needs. Maxine has experience with children who have physical disabilities and children who have been diagnosed with Downs Syndrome, Autism Spectrum Disorder ( Including Asperger’s and Rhett’s Syndrome), Cerebral Palsy, Brain Injuries, and Pervasive Developmental Disorders. The therapy sessions are focused on the individual needs of each child as well as alleviating the stresses for family members including siblings and caregivers.
